Description of a friend

Marina is a particularly good friend of mine. She is very thin, tall like me, brown eyed and has curly brown hair. 

She is so attractive and we laugh a lot in any situation. 

Marina is so extroverted and at first she seems very nervous. But when you get to know her, I wouldn't say she isn't nervous, but she has a shy, understanding and amazing side. She is like my psycologist because I tell her all my problems and she is always there to listen to me. I'm really proud to be friends with her. Usually we have the same opinion on everything, althought, we sometimes don't and we argue but we cannot be angry with each other. 

Above all, I feel very comfortable with her, and I think we make a rather good team! 

We have gone to a lot of places together: we live in the same street, we sit next to in class, we go to campsides together, and we do everything together, so I think she is one of my best and favourite friends!

To sum up, I hope she would like to continue our friendship as we are now, and not lose these amasing moments and memories. :)

I really love her and she is an example to follow!

Gemma Mengual, the farewell of the “mermaid” gold

The synchronized swimmer Gemma Mengual, considered one of the best Spanish sportswomen of all time and a world leader in their field, says goodbye to racing after 26 years active and 46 medals.

Mengual knew synchronized swimming at age eight by her cousin, with who she has federated to Kallipolis Barcelona Swimming Club. In 1992, her coach Anna Tarrés incorporated her into her team and two years later, at 17 years, Mengual became the maximum bet of the current national coach, to achieve second place in Europe youth. 

A year later of the Beiking Olympics after an outstanding world championship in Rome in 2009, she decided to retire to be a mother and give way to new promises.

Nearly two years away from the pools, she returned last October to training in order to prepare for London Olympics. But recently she decided to finish her career of synchronized swimmer. 

I have chose this news because I love the pool's world and I couldn't go there when I was a child. I didn't follow Gemma Mengual in her competitions but I sometimes have seen her and I think she has got a lot of talent. She does her work perfectly and absolutely synchronized with her partner.

Bacteria used to fight sleeping sickness

Scientists believe they have found a way to beat sleeping sickness using a bacterium against the tsetse fly host that spreads the disease to humans.

The tsetse fly harbours bacteria in its midgut, muscle and salivary glands.

Experts in Belgium have genetically modified these "good bugs" so they attack the culprit parasite carried by the fly. Althought, work is needed to hone the process.

Sleeping sickness, or human African trypanosomiasis, is a potentially fatal disease that plagues many regions of Africa. The parasite causing sleeping sickness is transmitted to humans through the bite of the infected tsetse fly. This causes fever, headaches, aching joints and itching. Then follows the second stage of disease as the parasites cross the blood-brain barrier to infect the central nervous system.

The drug most commonly used to treat the condition is a derivative of arsenic. And the treatment can be excruciatingly painful and potentially fatal.

I have chose this news, because I think it's more interesting and you learn more with the healthy news than the other ones. I usually choose these topics because I like to know about the new investigations of the major diseases, like this one. 

In my opinion, I think they have to be peaceful of their sickness and very comprehensives because you have to go very wrong.

CARNIVAL

In February and March, all the people, the younger and older ones, are very busy, because it's Carnival. All the people of the world do that party, of couse some countries celebrate it more that the others, but in general all know that.

I love this party because it's the only day we can dress up sexy, original, funny and cheerful. And it's also funny guess what others are disguised. 

This year is the first one that I don't have my dress. We are very late but we'll start working strait away. I also love it, because all the people get involved with this party. They do very big, beautiful and funny floats.

This year the Carnival starts on 17th February and ends in the beginning of March. Some towns do competitions of the best float and the best dresses and dancing. I think it's a doog idea because you make close friends and you can win some money.

I have always dressed up in Carnival and I hope I'll do it for ever.

Argentina, my last trip!

Argentina, my last trip!

I went to Argentina last December with my family. I have been there for three weeks and it was so exiting!

In the one hand, the plane’s hours are very bored because you don’t know what you can do sitting all the time, but luckily, I did homework and read books for the school.

But in the other hand, when we arrived there, it was so different from here. The language is different than the Spanish’ one and we had to learn lots of words to understand the people. I love this language and his intonation. And also, there were in summer and we took sunbathe. Now, we are so brown.

We went to Patagonia to see some animals like: penguins, elephant seals, etc, and to visit some capitals of this big country. I loved it! But we had to do lots of km by car to get our objectives.

We really laughed, danced, went to some parties and spoke a lot. We spent a lot of time on the car, and we learnt to be more patients and not stress.

My parents, my sister and I really enjoyed this travel and we really want to repeat it again.

Land of my childhood

In this second term, I’m going to do the first writing about this book. It didn’t wake me up lots of feelings, I don’t know why but I didn’t like it a lot.

It is composed by some South Asia stories. They are very short and summarized, and it could be the cause that I didn’t like.

I’m going to explain the summary of one of these stories, called “The Intelligence of Wild Things”. I think it’s the most interesting and that I learnt more. This story talks about a family living in Calcutta. The father had died and there was only the mother and her two children, a boy and a girl. This boy wasn’t like the others, because he liked staying at home, listening his mother’s stories and cooking in the kitchen. One day, when they grew up, the boy had received a letter from America saying that he had a place in one college there. He didn’t want to go there because he loved his mum, but she said that the bad situation in Calcutta would be worse day by day.

Some years later, they were separated. The mother was in Calcutta, the girl was in California with her husband and the boy was in the other side of USA. The girl went to visit her mum because she was getting older. The mother was very bad and sad because she hadn’t seen her child for years, and the only thing she wanted before she died, was seeing her children together in Calcutta.
